Gimme Shelter: Housing Rights in Halifax – A Panel Discussion

On the Shabbat of Sukkot, when we dwell in temporary structures (Sukkot), we will explore the struggles of those without permanent homes. A panel featuring leading housing rights advocates, experts, and community members Sheri Lecker and Dr. Jeff Karabanow will follow services. Come hear their stories of activism and learn what you can do to help.

Sheri Lecker is the executive director for Adsum for Women and Children, a Halifax non-profit dedicated to helping women, children and youth. She has worked tirelessly to promote housing rights both here in Halifax and support people living in war zones abroad and is also an accomplished journalist.

Dr. Jeff Karabanow teaches at Dalhousie University’s School of Social Work and has worked with homeless youth across Canada and also in Guatemala. He is also the spokesperson and volunteer organizer for Halifax’s Out of the Cold emergency shelter.
