High Holiday Seating and Ticket

Our Kol Nidre Service is open without restriction to all who wish to worship with us. Our members make a special Kol Nidre donation and we ask non-members to consider making a donation to help us maintain our egalitarian synagogue.

Seating at Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur Services is a benefit of membership, but we are pleased to welcome non-members who purchase High Holiday tickets. You do not need to purchase High Holiday tickets if you meet the following three conditions:
1. If you are a student, no ticket is required with a student ID.
2. If you serve in the armed forces, no ticket is required with a military ID
3. If you are a member in good standing of another synagogue, please have your synagogue provide us with a confirmation of your membership by email, fax or letter. We will issue complimentary tickets to members in good standing of another synagogue.

All non-members may pre-purchase High Holiday tickets at $180.00 for a single and $360.00 for a family.

Tickets are issued in specific names and are not transferable. A “family” includes partners and dependent children living at home.

To purchase High Holiday tickets:
• Phone the Shaar at 902-444-4868 (Visa and MasterCard are accepted. Interac e-transfer is accepted - get the security question from the office.)
• Email the  Shaar office  to make arrangements.
• Go our donation page  and select High Holiday Ticket from the drop-down menu (Visa, MasterCard and Amex are accepted.)

High Holiday tickets will be mailed to you. Tax receipts are provided upon request.

How to Find Us

The Shaar Shalom Synagogue is located at 1981 Oxford Street in Halifax. It is situated on the corner of Oxford Street and Pepperell Street with entrance doors off both streets. The Oxford Street doors are normally locked except on High Holidays and when there are simchas and events. The Pepperell Street door is accessible for all services and during office hours.

Here is some information to help you find us:

If you are coming from the cruise ship terminal, we are 3.6km away. For most people, this is not walking distance so you may want to take a taxi.

If you are coming from a downtown Halifax hotel, we are approximately 3km away. For most people, this is not walking distance so you may want to take a taxi.

The closest hotel to the synagogue is the Atlantica Hotel. It is less than 1km away and within walking distance.

If you are coming from the Halifax Airport (Stanfield International Airport), we are approximately 40km away. The taxi fare is approximately $60 (Canadian).

Illustration of Yom KippurKol Nidre Appeal

Our Kol Nidre Service is open without restriction to all who wish to worship with us. We hope the experience is meaningful and meets your spiritual needs.

Our tradition is to appeal to our members to make a special Kol Nidre donation and we ask non-members to consider making a donation as well. We are an egalitarian synagogue with a vibrant congregation and we hope you will consider a donation to help us continue the outstanding educational, spiritual and social programming that has become the foundation of the Shaar Shalom.

If you do not wish to give to the Kol Nidre Appeal area, we encourage you to consider making a $72 donation to purchase a High Holiday mahzor for our synagogue, which you can personalize with a dedication. Go to our donation page to purchase a mahzor.

We thank you in advance for whatever donation you are able to make. A tax receipt will be provided upon request.
