A Conversation with Garry Williams about “KAMP”

Halifax director, actor, & musician Garry Williams has teamed with Jamie Bradley to create a musical about the experience of gay men in concentration camps during the Holocaust. Excerpts from the production were presented at Halifax Central Library on April 24th. People have questioned the idea of a musical about the Holocaust, but in fact, this is not so very different from Jews who surreptitiously celebrated Shabbat or Jewish holidays in the camps. For gay men, many of whom were performers before being interned in camps, making music, even in these places, was a way to retain their humanity.
Garry Williams is interested in having a conversation with the Jewish community about how he came up with the idea, and how the show has been realized. Join the conversation over Kiddush after Saturday morning services.
