“Who’s In Charge Around Here?” NaKh & Nosh Returns With Judges 1

August 18, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

After the end of the Book of Joshua, the Book of Judges opens with utter disorganization. Joshua is out of the picture, and the Land of Israel is a near battlefield. Amidst this chaos a few short stories rise to the surface: the truncated tale of Adonivezek the thumbless, the “all’s-well-that-ends-well” anecdote about Kalev’s daughter Akhsah, and a few attempts at conquest where our ancestors didn’t get what they wanted. We’ll read these stories to explore why they’re holy yet rarely studied, and we’ll review what Jews have taught about this Book over the past three millennia. Join Rabbi Rank at Kiddush for a little NaKh (the final 2/3 of the Hebrew Bible) and a little nosh (“food”).
