DESCRIPTION:There will be a lecture in the David Schroeder Music and Culture Series by Professor William Cheng\, entitled “But the Nazis Loved Music\, Too”.  This lecture will take place at noon at the Dalhousie Arts Centre\, Room 406 (MacAloney Room)\, free of charge.  Professor Cheng is on the faculty of Dartmouth College\, New Hampshire\, and he teaches and writes about topics in media\, ethics\, race\, disability\, play\, and performance in the Washington Post\, Huffington Post\, and Time Magazine. \n

Come join Rabbi Rank’s table at Kiddush to make sense of how such a wild chapter made it into the TaNaKh (the Hebrew Bible). Together we’ll occupy ourselves with a little NaKh (the final two thirds of the TaNaKh) and a little nosh (which is Yiddish for senseless eating). \n

SUMMARY:Chai Mitzvah Study and Discussion Group
DESCRIPTION:Come join us for the next session of our Chai Mitzvah series! \nChai Mitzvah is a program to enhance Jewish engagement. Like a book group\, Chai Mitzvah network groups meet monthly for meaningful text-based discussions. What sets Chai Mitzvah apart from education programs is that each person in the group builds their ‘Jewish Bucket List’ by adopting or deepening a spiritual practice\, engaging in a social action project of their choosing\, and identifying something Jewish to learn about.  \nAfter meeting for nine months\, participants receive a certificate of completion and a tree is planted in Israel in their honour.  Our monthly group will convene on the last Monday of each month at 7:15pm\, unless otherwise indicated. \nFor questions about the group\, please contact our member Mitch McNeil (mitspooner@gmail.com)\, who facilitates the class. Our focus for February’s session is Menuchat HaNefesh (“Equanimity”).

DESCRIPTION:On Sunday February 3rd\, the family of Shifra Richman gathered in Winnipeg for the funeral and burial of Shifra’s late husband\, Dr. Alex Richman\, who passed away at the age of 90.\nLong-time members of the Shaar Shalom Synagogue\, the Richmans were unable to be joined in Manitoba by many of those who knew and loved Alex in Halifax. On Sunday\, February 10th\, at 2:30 PM at the Shaar Shalom Synagogue\, Shifra Richman and her family will be remembering Alex in a memorial service that family\, friends\, and community members are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be provided.\nYehi zikhrono livrakhah–may Alex’s memory be for a blessing.
