DESCRIPTION:Barry Pakes is a Public Health specialist physician\, who also works in primary care and emergency medicine. He is a Royal College Fellow in Public Health and Preventive Medicine\, has an MPH from Harvard School of Public Health\, a Diploma in Tropical Medicine from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia and a PhD in Public Health Ethics from the University of Toronto. He has experience working globally\, in Northern communities\, in local and regional public health\, and with the WHO Ethics Group. For the past year\, he has been acting as Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health in Nunavut. He is currently the Program Director of the Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency program at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health\, the Program Director for the Global Health Education Initiative and is Global Health Lead for Post Graduate Medical Education at the University of Toronto. His main areas of interest are in Global Health Ethics\, Post-Graduate Global Health Education\, Vaccinology and Tobacco Control\, and Public Health Halacha. \nScholar in Residence  – Dr. Barry Pakes\, of the World Health Organization\, will join us for a fascinating discussion about medical ethics on Shabbat June 3rd. \nJoin us for a kiddush luncheon and a sidedish of medical ethics. \nA Jew at the WHO: Ebola\, Zika and Pandemic Ethics in Halacha\n \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Shabbat Morning Service and Kiddush in Honour of Shael Brown's Graduation from Dalhousie University
DESCRIPTION:Shabbat morning services begin at 9:15 a.m. every Saturday.  Shabbat liturgy\, nusach and Divrei Torah delivered by our Rabbi make each Shabbat inspiring for those attending.  There are also many occasions throughout the year when the congregation will hold special Shabbat services\, from a scholar-in-residence Shabbat to a university student Shabbat and more. This Shabbat Jason Brown and Sondra Rutman are generously sponsoring Kiddush in honour of Shael Brown’s graduation from Dalhousie University. \nCongregants are encouraged to contribute to Shabbat services by chanting a Haftorah or delivering a D’var Torah.  Please contact the Rabbi to make arrangements.  The Rabbi will also be happy to guide you along the way.
