This, of course, in and of itself, is a problem, since voting requires some activities forbidden on Shabbat (or the upcoming Simchat Torah holiday on Sunday), in particular, writing with ink or electrons.

Thankfully, there need be no conflict between our civil and Jewish duties, since there are alternatives to Shabbat voting – one can:

* Vote in advance in person at your designated polling place on Tuesday, October 13,
* Vote early (through October 14), either by phone (1-888-371-0341) or using the internet (halifax.isivote.com).

Finally, whatever your personal religious practice, please remember that we are all responsible for each other, and together we all represent our community to our neighbours – please cast your vote as a proud Jew and a proud Canadian and use the alternatives provided.
